
Biography
Lara Biancalana was born in 2003 in Rome into a family of musicians. She started playing the cello at six and attended the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire in Rome under Paolo Andriotti before moving to England. In 2018, supported by a generous merit-based scholarship, she moved to London to study at The Yehudi Menuhin School for musically gifted children, where she was taught by Thomas Carroll, Matthijs Broersma, and Adrian Brendel. She then returned to Italy to study with Antonio Meneses at the Stauffer Center for Strings in Cremona until his early departure, and with Alessio Pianelli and Quartetto Prometeo at Avos Project - International Music School in Rome. In 2022, she earned her Bachelor's degree with top marks, receiving high praise and honorable mention. Currently, she is studying with Andreas Brantelid at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.

The Society of Concerts in Milan selected Lara as Artist in Residence for its 2022/2023 season. In 2021, she was chosen to participate in “Mit Musik - Miteinander,” a project of the prestigious Kronberg Academy.
Lara is one of the 2021 scholarship recipients of the “Roscini-Padalino” and “Cucinelli Foundation” Prizes.
Since the same year, she has been a member of the LGT Young Soloists, an internationally renowned ensemble of young virtuosos performing worldwide in some of the most prestigious venues. With them, she has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Tonhalle in Zurich, Casino in Bern and Basel, Liszt Hall in Geneva, and many others.
Her concert debut took place in 2016 at the Ravenna Festival, where she was invited to perform by cellist Giovanni Sollima as a young and promising talent. Since then, she has shared the stage with musicians such as Roman Simovic, Salvatore Accardo, Stephen Waarts, Milena Simovic, Georgi Kovalev, Enrico Bronzi, Giovanni Gnocchi, Anastasia Kobekina, Brannon Cho, Kevin Spagnolo, Enrico Pace, and Itamar Golan. Since 2019, the Italian association “Musica con le Ali” has supported her, including her in their artistic patronage project dedicated to the best young Italian musicians. She has performed in concert seasons such as Ridotto del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, La Fenice Theatre in Venice, IUC-La Sapienza University Concert Season, Trame Sonore in Mantua, Oratorio del Gonfalone in Rome, Merano Music Festival, Ravenna Festival, The Menuhin Hall, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Heidelberger Frühling Festival, and Copenhagen Summer Festival.
She is a prize winner of many national and international competitions, such as International Dinu Lipatti for Youth, “Young Performers” 2017 in Pescara, where she also won the special prize Art 2017 and the production of a discographic demo with Odradek Records, Premio Crescendo of Florence, where she was also awarded the Jury’s prize, LAMS Matera Award, Grand Prize Virtuoso of Salzburg, and Audience Prize at the Anna Kull cello competition in Graz.
She has participated in several cello and chamber music masterclasses with Giovanni Sollima, Giovanni Gnocchi, Francesco Dillon, Massimo Polidori, Umberto Clerici, Enrico Bronzi, Colin Carr, Brannon Cho, Kian Soltani, Thomas Demenga, Frans Helmerson, Sol Gabetta, and Steven Isserlis.

Lara is a very active chamber musician, former member of Quartetto Klem (Premio Marzani 2024 winner), she's currently a member of Trio Lingo.

The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
